Whether you’re craving a hearty poutine, a staple salad, or some delicious sushi, we’ve narrowed down some of the best places to eat for every desired meal (most of which offer vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options). Read below, where we also discuss the best eating locations to celebrate with your favourite dish after an exam, or the best environments to snack while you study.

Hearty Meals

SCRATCH CAFE

An undeniable campus favourite! The menu changes daily with innovative and delicious dishes cooked by our very own Culinary Arts students. This provides them the opportunity to hone their skills in the kitchen and you with a chance to try all their tasty creations. You can also purchase to-go meals suitable for both lunch and dinner in their takeout fridge. The Scratch Cafe is a must try for everyone!

THE DEN

Step into The Den for delicious pub-style fare with daily food and drink specials. From a selection of poutines, appies, burgers and more, the Den offers a casual and fun restaurant atmosphere open to all ages. Reward yourself and stop by with friends for a bite after finishing that big project, or order pick-up and enjoy from anywhere! You can find The Den in the Campus Activity Centre.

SUBWAY

Eat fresh right here on campus. Meet TRU’s newest foodie addition. A favourite across the country, Subway’s customizable wraps, salads and sandwiches are always a delicious choice for lunch, dinner and study breaks. Now serving breakfast. Located in the International Building, Subway is the perfect stop in between classes.

Kamloops NorthPaws Kanteen

Featuring fresh food cooked to order, the Kanteen offers a new dining option for the TRU community. Looking for variety and interested in trying something new? The NorthPaws Kanteen menu changes regularly and features weekly specials. Proceeds go to the Kamloops NorthPaws Baseball Club, which plays at Norbrock stadium here in Kamloops. This food truck is located between Old Main and the International Building.

URBAN MARKET

Offering a weekly restaurant rotation, Urban Market offers a diverse menu for all palettes. From stone oven pizza, butter chicken, to salads and wraps, you are bound to discover a food you enjoy. The place to go on campus for pizza prepared on-site and baked in our open-flame oven. Check out the rotating themed hot entrée station or enjoy one of our fresh salad or wrap creations. You can find Urban Market on the second floor of the Campus Activity Centre.

THE WORKBENCH

Get your day started with a hot breakfast or fuel up for your afternoon with a freshly cooked pizza. Located in the Trades and Technology building, the Workbench contains food easily available to trade students or other students willing to make the trek across campus. It also offers hot dogs, wraps, entrees and bakery items that deliver to your taste buds.

U&M DELI

Stop in to the U&M Deli for a coffee made exclusively with coffee beans from Twisted Goat Coffee Roasters. Campus favourites include the butter chicken wrap, veggie samosas, breakfast sandwiches, and bakery items. Located on the second floor of Old Main, this is the perfect place to grab a quick refreshing beverage or to satisfy your hunger.

Coffee First – Energize with Caffeine

COMMON GROUNDS

Common Grounds is your only student-owned and operated coffee shop on campus striving for superior environmental and ethical standards. We offer fairly traded organic espresso, biodegradable cups and containers, living wages for student employees, and extended hours of service for when you need us most. The best part? All the proceeds go back into student body.

STARBUCKS

Love coffee? Our fully licensed Starbucks has all your favourites. Since 1971, Starbucks Coffee Company has been committed to ethically sourcing and roasting the highest quality of Arabica coffee in the world. Check out the wide variety of hot and cold beverages tailored to your exact preferences, or the large selection of fine pastries, sandwiches and other delicious treats.

TIM HORTONS

Double Double? We’ve always got a fresh pot on. Stop in to Tim Hortons on your way to class in the morning for a great breakfast and then swing back later in the day for a delicious sandwich, wrap, or salad all made with quality ingredients. Savoury or sweet, we’ve got you covered with a wide selection of freshly baked goods like muffins, bagels, and donuts. Our full service location is sure to have something to satisfy your cravings.

FOOD BANK

Students, like anyone else, have a right to food. TRUSU operates a Food Bank to help our members get the food they need between those taxing trips to the grocery store. If you are a student struggling to cope with the overwhelming costs of attending university, we encourage you to reach out and they can provide you with a food package. DINNING CARD

Say goodbye to instant noodles, cold pizza, and Kraft Dinner — and hello to delicious, hearty, healthy meals on campus. Your dining card will provide you with a simple and convenient way to eat on campus and is accepted at nine locations. Learn more here.
